Faithful Sisters Inspire as they Serve and Share in the Hamilton New Zealand Mission

Hamilton, New Zealand – In the heart of the Hamilton Mission, two remarkable Sister Missionaries, Sister Fullmer and Sister Phillips, radiate faith, dedication, and a deep desire to share their joy with others. Serving in the Chapel Downs Ward area, they leave a lasting impact on the community, inspiring others through their unwavering commitment.

Hailing from different corners of the United States, Sister Fullmer from Kimberly, Idaho, and Sister Phillips from Eagle Mountain, Utah, have come together in their shared purpose: to bring the light of the gospel to the people of New Zealand. Their journey is a testament to their faith, as they follow the callings they believe were directly from the Lord.

The Chapel Downs Ward, situated in the Redoubt Stake, encompasses a wide-reaching area, spanning from Redoubt Road to the vibrant neighbourhoods of Flat Bush, all the way to the scenic coastal regions of Beachlands and Maraetai. Sister Fullmer and Sister Phillips joyfully dedicate themselves to this expansive community, guided by their mission to bring the teachings of Jesus Christ to those seeking spiritual enlightenment.

Their mission extends far beyond the boundaries of physical location. It is a spiritual quest to touch the lives of individuals who have yet to experience the profound joy and peace that the gospel offers. As Sister Fullmer emphasizes, “The biggest reason that I’m on a mission is because I know the Lord asked me to be here, and I want to be obedient to Him. There are so many people who have not experienced the same joy that I have, and I believe they could truly enjoy that.”

Both sisters possess a deep-rooted faith that has shaped their journey. Sister Fullmer, prior to her mission, studied history education at Brigham Young University in Idaho, while Sister Phillips pursued a year of university education at Utah State University. However, their pursuit of academic knowledge took a temporary pause as they heeded a higher calling—one that has brought them immeasurable peace and joy.

Having dedicated seven months to their mission in New Zealand, Sister Fullmer and Sister Phillips have found a profound love for the country and its people. Auckland’s beauty and the warm nature of the locals have captured their hearts. Yet, they acknowledge the challenges they face in finding individuals who are receptive to the message they carry. Amidst the fast-paced lives of many, it can be difficult to find those willing to open their hearts.

However, within the Chapel Downs Ward, the sisters have discovered an invaluable source of support. Local members are always ready to assist and collaborate in the shared mission of spreading the gospel. Their unity and devotion provide a nurturing environment for Sister Fullmer and Sister Phillips to fulfil their purpose.

Undoubtedly, missionary work presents its own set of challenges. Being away from their families for an extended period, unable to return home for visits or embrace loved ones, requires unwavering determination. Sister Phillips poignantly shares, “Missionary work is just a hard thing to do. That’s why it’s such a sacrifice to leave for a year and a half. But every door that’s opened and every person that is excited to hear something, it makes every door slammed worth it.”

Motivation stems from their profound faith in Jesus Christ. Each day, as they awaken, they remind themselves of the purpose behind their mission: to unite families forever and offer others the opportunity to experience the same joy and appreciation they hold. Sister Fullmer draws inspiration from loved ones who are not members of the Church or who have become inactive, envisioning these dear individuals experiencing the transformative power of the gospel for the first time. She hopes that they too will find the same sense of purpose, peace, and profound joy that she has discovered through her faith. It is with this heartfelt desire that Sister Fullmer and Sister Phillips continue to serve, radiating the love of Christ and sharing the light of their faith with all who cross their path.
