Maluafou College’s hall was filled with mixed emotions as teachers and students brought the story of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion to life while celebrating Holy Easter.

The commemoration of Holy Easter, with the enactment of the moments leading up to the crucifixion of the Son of Man, is an annual activity for all Congregational Christian Church Samoa (CCCS) schools.

College staff and Year 12 students followed the same storyline on Thursday during the school assembly.

The creativity and the emotions shown in the performance of the different activities of the program allowed everyone in the building to reflect on the unconditional love of God shown to his children since the beginning of the world.

One of the teachers at the college,Tavita Reupena, started off the event with a powerful sermon where he emphasised the importance of understanding why Christ chose to carry our sins on his shoulders.

“Like today’s theme, Jesus carried all our sins on the way to the cross. He never spoke a single word even though he was badly beaten and shamed. What a great demonstration of humility and forgiveness for us,” he said.

“Who would have thought that there would be salvation for us sinners? When he was on the cross, each and every one of us was on his mind. He wanted to set us free from sin so that we could live life with so much freedom, and that we would have eternal life.”

According to the school principal, Lasi Tavae, only the students normally take part in the program in previous years.

Fortunately, the teachers’ participation this year showcases the concept of oneness during the period of Holy Easter.

“The event today is fruitful as the staff decided to join and make it memorable.

It goes to show that Maluafou is not just a school, but it is a complete family with everyone coming together to bring the spirit of Jesus’ death to life,” Mrs. Tavae said.

“As a family, we want to wish Samoa a blessed Easter. Everyone has their own weaknesses, but Jesus took them all to the cross because he cares for us, and he does not want anyone to suffer.”

As the world counts down to Good Friday this week, parents, teachers, and the community gathered at the school hall on Thursday morning.

They were already blessed with activities being done as part of the Holy Easter annual program including skits, drama, songs, Bible reading, and prayers.

Maluafou College has over 40 staff members and around a thousand students.
