A recent article by Matai’a Lanuola Tusani T – Ah Tong in the Samoa Observer highlighted ongoing discussions regarding Samoa’s minimum wage policy. According to the article, a consultation on a new minimum wage policy has concluded, with the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Labour (MCIL) and the Samoan National Tripartite Forum (S.N.T.F.) working on establishing key parameters and procedural guidelines for reviewing the minimum wage every two years.
The article mentions that the current minimum wage in Samoa is SAT$3 per hour, last raised in 2020. It also notes that many workplaces in Samoa already pay above the minimum wage.
While some media outlets have reported a potential increase in the minimum wage to $5 per hour, an email communication with MCIL indicates that there is currently no confirmation regarding such an increase.
The review process for the minimum wage is ongoing, and any changes to the minimum wage rate will be communicated officially by MCIL.
We will continue to monitor this and provide updates as more information becomes available.
