The Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) is participating in the UN ESCAP Finance Forum in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 7th to 8th. The forum focuses on addressing financial barriers in the Asia-Pacific region and gathers women entrepreneurs, investors, financial service providers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to share experiences and develop strategies for gender-responsive financing.

Central to SVSG’s participation is its Nofotane Program, which aims to empower women through skills training, microfinance education, and advocacy. The program helps women gain financial independence, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.

Siliniu Lina Chang, President of SVSG, stressed the importance of the forum. “Economic empowerment of women is crucial for achieving gender equality and sustainable development,” said Siliniu Lina Chang. “Improving access to finance for women and promoting equitable resource distribution can enhance the economic roles of women entrepreneurs, support inclusive growth, and help prevent abuse against Nofotane women.”

SVSG’s involvement in the forum demonstrates its role as an influential advocate for women’s economic rights in Samoa and highlights its commitment to shaping global discussions on women’s economic empowerment.
