Papāli’i Monalisa Tia’i-Keti has been reappointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Samoa, confirmed by a recent Cabinet meeting. This follows her historic initial appointment in 2018 as the first woman to ever hold this position.

She joined the Samoa Police Service in 2004 after returning from her studies at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Papāli’i holds a Bachelor of Science, a Master’s degree in Transnational Crime, and has been working towards a law degree at the University of the South Pacific.

Throughout her career, she has been a strong advocate for gender equality within the police force. Her efforts have included promoting the recruitment and retention of women in the police service and encouraging women to pursue careers in areas traditionally dominated by men.

Papāli’i has led many successful police operations, including handling major investigations and addressing public safety issues. Her leadership extends to handling sensitive cases like narcotics and scams targeting the community.

In 2022, Papāli’i received the prestigious Audrey Fagan Memorial Award from the Australasian Council of Women and Pacific Police. This award recognises outstanding women in policing who have demonstrated exceptional qualities as mentors, role models, and leaders.
