Apia, Samoa – This week, His Excellency Ambassador Fei Mingxing visited the Campus of Hope, a shelter facility for abused and vulnerable women and children, operated by the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG). The Chinese Ambassador likened the Campus of Hope to a home, reflecting on its nurturing and supportive environment.
During his inaugural visit, Ambassador Fei Mingxing explored the history and mission of the SVSG and how the Campus of Hope plays a crucial role in providing support services for women and children victims of violence. His Excellency was particularly impressed with the homely atmosphere of the Campus.
Ambassador Mingxing engaged with the children, conversing with them in Chinese and expressing his admiration for their fluency in the language. He encouraged the children to make the most of their time at the shelter, emphasising the importance of their rehabilitation programs in preparing them for reintegration into the community.
“You have to be happy,” His Excellency conveyed to the children. “My visit to the Campus and seeing you has made me very happy.”
SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang acknowledged the positive relationship between China and the SVSG, facilitated through the government of Samoa. Earlier this year, a carer from the Campus attended a Seminar on Campus Safety and Emergency Aid for Child Injuries in China. Additionally, during the SVSG Online Fundraising event in July 2023, the Ambassador of China in Samoa made a significant donation to support the salaries of the workers and the operational costs of the Campus of Hope shelter facility.
