Samoa’s retail fuel prices have seen notable fluctuations from June to September 2024, reflecting global market conditions and local economic adjustments.
Petrol prices were steady at $3.46 per liter in both June and July. However, in August, prices dropped significantly by 35.0 sene to $3.11 per liter. In September, the price slightly increased to $3.17 per liter.
Diesel followed a similar pattern, holding at $3.46 per liter in June and July before decreasing to $3.25 per liter in August. In September, a minor increase brought the price to $3.27 per liter.
Kerosene prices decreased from $3.05 per liter in June and July to $2.88 per liter in August. The downward trend continued, albeit slightly, with a decrease to $2.86 per liter in September.
These price movements reflect the Samoan government’s response to international oil market trends and economic conditions. The adjustments, particularly the price decreases in August, were likely influenced by the June 2024 Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) marker prices and global economic factors, including OPEC’s supply strategies and geopolitical uncertainties.
