The IBF and Ring Magazine Cruiserweight World Title showdown between Australian-Samoan champion Jai Opetaia and Italy’s Claudio Squeo has been officially rescheduled to Sunday, 8 June 2025. Originally set for 13 May, the bout will now take place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Queensland.
The date change was confirmed in an official press release on 5 April, following a minor injury sustained by Opetaia during training. Promoters say the three-week delay will allow the undefeated champion to fully recover and be in peak condition for the fight.
“Being the animal that Jai is in the ring, he takes no opponent lightly,” said Mick Francis, Opetaia’s manager and promoter with Tasman Fighters. “He wants to be 100 percent fit to defend his IBF and Ring Magazine Cruiserweight World Titles.”
The rescheduled event now falls on a public holiday weekend across most of Australia, which organisers hope will attract even more travelling fans. Tickets purchased for the original date will remain valid for 8 June, with full refunds available for those unable to attend.
The team behind the event expressed gratitude to DAZN, the IBF, and presenting partners including Experience Gold Coast and Riyadh Season for their support in accommodating the new date.
Tickets for the 8 June event will be available from Ticketek starting Monday, 7 April.
With a strong undercard lineup expected, the night promises to be a major attraction for boxing fans and a highlight for sport on the Gold Coast.
