Thugs and gangster behaviour creeps in

“It isn’t difficult for us to go and throw them out of the government offices” – La’auli Leuatea Schmidt

Only thugs speak with this kind of disrespect and feel they can do so with impunity.

La’auli’s comments reflect his true colours. His arrogance and treasonous attitude towards the Prime Minister and Cabinet of the Independent State of Samoa cannot and should not go unchecked.

Let’s not forget his misogynistic outburst broadcasted on national TV—where he suggested that women who protested should be taken to Tiafau and subjected to heinous acts by his young male supporters, all under lights for the world to see.
Does he have sisters? Aunties? Nieces? Of course he does. And no doubt he would do anything to protect them. So why make such outrageous statements?

It speaks volumes about his character—a man who looks down on women and has little regard or respect for them.

It’s deeply unsettling to witness a senior MP, a once-respected leader, now resorting to this kind of rhetoric. His behaviour is giving license to his supporters to continue their attacks, especially against Samoa’s first female Prime Minister. Let’s be honest—he is hellbent on destroying Fiame, all because she refused to bend the law to shield him from facing criminal charges.

La’auli keeps pushing a false narrative that his FAST rebels hold the majority. But let’s do the maths:

  • FAST Rebels: 20 (including the nearly-dismissed Speaker)
  • HRPP: 18
  • Fiame’s Independent group: 15

So where is this imaginary majority La’auli keeps talking about?

Even if, hypothetically, the Head of State replaced Fiame with La’auli, it wouldn’t last. With just 20 members, it would be a minority government. A motion of no confidence would come in faster than a Samoan taxi on a rainy day.

Let’s stop with the bedtime fairytales. Samoans are educated. They hear your words. They see through the lies. And frankly, they’re disappointed.
